FAQ

General and scope

What is ST’s Code of Conduct?

The Code of Conduct is ST’s guiding and reference document for ethical and responsible behavior. It sets out our principles, expectations and key rules on how we conduct business with integrity, respect each other, protect our data and assets, and strive for excellence, everywhere we operate.

Who does the Code of Conduct apply to?

The Code of Conduct applies to:

  • All ST employees (full time, part time, temporary, interns, remote workers, contractors) and employees of its majority-owned affiliates.
  • Members of the Executive Committee and the Board.

We also expect our suppliers and other business partners to uphold similar high standards of integrity, respect and accountability, in line with applicable laws and regulations.

Why is the Code of Conduct important for ST?

Because it:

  • Reflects our commitment to a strong ethical culture
  • Provides a framework to make ethical decisions, every day, everywhere
  • Sets clear expectations for how we treat each other and do business ethically
  • Protects our people, our business and our reputation
  • Builds trust with customers, suppliers, partners, shareholders and authorities
  • Supports sustainable and long‑term success

Ethics and integrity are core to our decision‑making and part of how we define “success”.

I’m a customer/partner/supplier. What does the Code of Conduct mean for me?

The Code of Conduct explains how we conduct business with integrity, respect, and accountability. What we expect from you:

  • Compete fairly and comply with applicable laws and regulations
  • Treat people with dignity and respect
  • Protect confidential information and personal data
  • Act responsibly towards the environment

We also expect our stakeholders to follow similar high standards in their own operations.

Does the Code of Conduct replace laws or internal policies?

No. This Code of Conduct consolidates and summarizes our ethical principles and key rules, but it does not substitute applicable laws and regulations. Our Code of Conduct is complemented by specific policies (e.g., conflict of interest, anti‑bribery, trade compliance, privacy).

Does the Code of Conduct also apply to suppliers and other business partners?

Yes. While the Code of Conduct is mandatory for ST employees, Executive Committee members and Board members, we also expect our suppliers and other business partners to uphold comparable standards of integrity, respect, accountability and compliance with applicable laws.

Doing the right thing and speaking up

What should I do if I see or suspect a violation of the Code of Conduct?

You are encouraged to speak up and report in good faith if you see or suspect any misconduct or violations of our Code of Conduct, ST policies and procedures or the law.

You can raise concern via the independent Ethics Hotline, available online or by phone 24/7. The Ethics Hotline allows you to stay anonymous should you wish to do so, wherever permitted by local law.

Alternatively, you can contact the Ethics, Compliance & Privacy department or the Corporate Audit & Risk department or talk to a selected manager.

What does “good faith” mean when I report a concern?

Reporting in good faith means you honestly believe the information you are sharing may be true, even if an investigation later shows that no violation occurred. You are not required to be certain or to have proof before speaking up.

Can I report anonymously?

Yes, where permitted by law. The Ethics Hotline allows to report concerns confidentially and, in many jurisdictions, anonymously. All reports are handled securely and seriously.

Will I be protected against retaliation if I speak up?

Any form of retaliation or intimidation against individuals who report a concern in good faith or participate in the assessment of the situation is prohibited. The Ethics & Compliance organization is here to support you. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out.

What happens after I submit a report?
  • Your concern is taken seriously and assessed.
  • Where appropriate, an independent investigation is opened.
  • Relevant facts are reviewed and addressed.
  • You receive feedback.
  • Corrective and, if needed, disciplinary actions are taken.
What happens if someone violates the Code of Conduct?

Violations of the Code of Conduct, policies or applicable laws and regulations may lead to disciplinary measures, in line with local law and internal rules, up to and including termination of employment or contractual relationships. Serious breaches may also result in legal consequences.

Where can I find more information or get help?
  • Contact the Ethics, Compliance & Privacy department (intranet and direct contacts).
  • Navigate this online version of our Code of Conduct (with links to relevant policies and procedures) or consult the printed version.
  • ST Integrity App (quick access to resources, news, quizzes about ethics & compliance).
  • The Ethics Hotline (24/7, phone or web) for raising concerns.

If you are unsure about any situation or cannot answer positively to the simplified guidance "Help me do the right thing", reach out to the Ethics, Compliance & Privacy department before acting.

Can I get training on the Code of Conduct and related topics?

Yes ! ST provides regular training and awareness on the Code of Conduct and on the topics it contains, as well as related subjects. You can find available training on our intranet page, or ask your manager or the Ethics, Compliance & Privacy department.

I cannot access certain documents, why?

Some policies and procedures are internal documents and can only be accessed by ST employees or employees with a valid ST account:

  • Employees must be connected onsite or through ST’s VPN to consult these documents via the intranet.
  • External stakeholders may not have direct access to all internal policies for confidentiality and security reasons.

If you are an external stakeholder and need information you cannot access online, please contact us through the channels indicated on this site or via your regular ST contact. We will provide the appropriate information or guidance, where possible and in line with our confidentiality obligations.
